Breathwork
Our breath changes the way we think, feel and behave. Whether we are aware of our breath or not it is impacting, moment to moment, every function and system in our body. So, if we use the breath purposefully, we have an extraordinary tool with which to direct our lives. We can stop searching outside of ourselves to feel a certain way and look within.
What can breathwork do? Much, including bringing us more energy and vitality, better sleep, more creativity, more confidence and feelings of calm, joy and flow.
It also supports us to move beyond past traumas and unhelpful patterns of behaviour towards a more resilient self. By regulating the autonomic nervous system, blood pressure and our cortisol levels we connect to and process the full range of our emotions and feelings. So, rather than resisting the pain of our grief, our fear or our anger, with the conscious breath, we naturally open to these emotions and they, in turn, soften.
As we go through life we develop breathing dysfunctions. In the breathwork that I offer we identify the breathing dysfunctions that are holding you back and develop practises for you to breathe more fully and functionally.
Trained by Nicola Price from Inspirational Breathing, I work with a breathing technique called the ‘conscious connected breath’, which also involves movement, touch, sound and music. This breathing technique allows trapped energy to flow freely and gives you access to your emotional, cognitive and somatic intelligences.
I have received teachings from others, including Jessica Dibb and Dr Dan Siegel, of a variety of other breathing techniques to bring to a range of challenges including poor sleep, low energy levels, anxiety and lack of focus.
I deliver breathwork in person and over zoom, please get in touch to find out more.
Below are some guided breathwork practises you can listen to:
This first one, ‘Receiving the Breath’ is a gentle and foundational daily breath work practise for resilience and self regulation:
This one is an introduction to the conscious connected breath and a reminder for my clients who I am using this breathing technique with. It is quite activating and so if you have heart problems it would be best to consult with me first. Listen to yourself and don’t use this breath if you are unsure.
